Bringing Remilio to the Masses

Our journey with Remilio AI began when 0xFuxi, already a trusted collaborator from our work on the successful Niqady Maker collection, approached us with a bold new idea—Criminalio, a derivative of the blue-chip collection Redacted Remilio Babies.

Given the existing popularity of derivatives like Retardio Cousins on Solana, we knew that creating Remilio AI was foundational.

Not just for Criminalio, but for continuing Charlotte Fang's vision of open and participatory approach to art that encourages entire communities to create new remixes and adaptations collectively.

Building the Ultimate Meme Engine

This assignment wasn’t just building another AI Meme Model. It was about creating an AI engine for the needs of the entire Remilio ecosystem and their many derivatives, while empowering users to expand upon the original source work:

This view stands in contrast to traditional art institutions, where artists compete for dwindling opportunities and resources. Remilio effortlessly creates a network effect, free from scarcity.

History Lesson: Remilia’s Influence

To understand why we took on this challenge, look to the cultural and artistic impact of Remilia Corporation. Charlotte Fang, the architect behind Remilia, emerged from the New York post-internet art scene in the 2010s, blending "neo-chibi" aesthetics with decentralization through projects like Milady Maker.

Unlike other projects that see derivatives as parasitic, Remilia—inspired by ZUN’s Touhou Project—embraces and amplifyies the original's influence.

Milady's DIY, unsophisticated aesthetic fostered a deep, parasocial connection between the user and financial asset, and it has since become one of the most talked-about NFT collections in the world.

That resonated with us. Coming from the arcane /biz/ community—where some of us moderate discussions that blend humor, irony, and sometimes controversial themes—we connected with Remilia’s ethos, valuing art that evokes innocence and personal expression.

From Concept to Creation

The development of Remilio AI was a complex process that went through multiple iterations:

Iteration 1

Our initial model focused solely on Redacted Remilio Babies without any image post-processing. While this produced some interesting results, the overall quality, particularly in facial details, was lacking.

Iteration 2

We expanded our dataset, which improved the quality of the images but still didn’t meet our high standards.

Iteration 3

This version added image post-processing and augmentation, which significantly improved the results. The faces were more detailed, and the overall quality was high enough to be used in Criminalio.

Future Development

This iterative approach refined Remilio AI into a model capable of producing detailed and expressive Remilios, while allowing for creative mashups with other popular memes and metas.

What makes Remilio AI particularly powerful is its versatility.

All of our Meme Models are combinable, which means that users can create complex and unique remixes—whether it's Remilio as a Skibidi Toilet Wizard or a fusion with Wojak.

This combinability opens up endless creative possibilities, allowing users to push the boundaries of meme culture in new and exciting ways.

But our work doesn’t stop here. We are continuously improving Remilio AI and have big plans for future iterations. Our goals include:

• Better Prompt Following: Enhancing the meme model’s ability to accurately follow detailed prompts, ensuring that users can describe complex traits and receive accurate outputs.
• Improved Composition: Allowing users to combine 3-5 custom memes together seamlessly, creating even crazier and more intricate remixes.
